Route 601 over Diascund Creek

The Hicks Island Road over Diascund Creek project turned out to be one of Bryant’s most unique projects to date. It required a 300-ft long temporary bridge for maintaining residents’ access to their island homes until a new 60-ft long permanent bridge was built. The temporary bridge not only served the island’s traffic, but it also protected the sensitive environmental wetlands while allowing the Diascund Creek channel to remain open to small boats. The permanent bridge construction required the installation of three cofferdams. These cofferdams were constructed with temporary sheet piles and permitted Bryant to work in a dry environment when building the bridge foundation. This $3.4 million project was completed under budget and a year ahead of schedule.
